Just uploading to show the layout of my zine, and what it was all about. I went for the idea of the mind being an extremely strong force on the physical. Oh yeah, art student, baby.

1. Cover page. Features a female body (or mannequin body... this was the last thing I actually did, it was kinda rushed) and a brain, connected with a corset-string-type affect on the chest/torso. The Title is:
The Body and Mind Intertwined (ohoh, geddit?)

2. Manga pages to the right, boxes of text to the left describing my morning commute. In a proper comic/manga, they'd be the boxes actually over the drawings, but I wanted my drawings to be silent... if you get what I mean.

3. Strands of wool (yarn?) stretching out and getting a bit tangled, with descriptions of how my mind works, and how it's a bit like a radio tuning in and out so the following zine might be a little hard to follow, ahah!
The wool isn't glued on to the page, just at the edges, so it goes slack and tautens.

4. Page that I spent most of my time on. It's all about Youth and older people craving the youthfull look, but often looking plastic in the process.
Also mentioning the craze in Japan for older women to not just look young, but look like little girls (but adding that I HAVE a lolita dress and do have a soft spot for the style) The "read me" envelope contains a whole page of me rambling on about that shite. So many lift-up flaps on this page that reveals more content.

5. This page focuses on the flipside, Children wanting to look older. The white part is another ramble about my opinion (I had been up all night, I got rambly... like I am right now), the right image is covered with a sheet of acetate, painted on makeup and bikini on a cut out picture of a baby, and when you flip over the acetate, an accordian shaped headline about a 12 year old wanting a boob job appears.

6. The Distorted Mirror Image page, covered in headlines about dieting and celebrity and image magazines. The mirror was created using tinfoil, card, and cut-off bits of a tea-bag box, just for the laugh

7. The Man page, just incase people thought I was only going to focus on women's bodies and their perceptions. Bollock on about the media and their influence on men and their self esteem here, and make reference to the overly burly marvel heroes, and the unbelievabley feminine manga boys.
The little comic at the bottom is of me... looking down the pants of a manga "boy", finding out "he's" a fraud, ahaha.

8. The Long, conclusion ramble page. You can tell I was knackered on this one. I could NOT think of what to do for it, and I was running out of time, so I just let the words take up the entire two pages, and made a brief... somewhat abstract, silhouette of the male and female form on the background.

9. Concluding Manga pages on the left, descriptions of my concluding thought process on the right.

10 AND 11 Ending double spread page. You see, 10 is the page with the acetate sheet down. I painted over it with a pretty image of the world, with sunny skies and cherry blossoms (The white streak is just the shine).
11, is a photograph (that I took) of the world as it actually is. When you lift up the acetate, you see the photograph.

LOOOONG STORY SHORT
Zine about outside influences on the mind, which in turn takes it's toll on the body, how we perceive it, and even our physical health.

Created using lots of things. Glue, card, staples (had to rip this all apart and staple it again TWICE. NOT a happy time), horrible magazines, wool, watercolour, acrylic, pencils, markers and a lyons tea bag box.
Over 30 hours in total... condensed into a few days.

Phew!

oh wow (:
i would love to see it all in person. it looks amazing.
Whoa, that's awesome.

I love the cover, how it's not just flat and all, with that yarn attatching the brain to it.

Also love 10 and 11, the drawing straight onto the photo looks like it worked out really well. :3

And y'know, personally I'd like to get a closer look at that little manga 'boy' scene on page 7. :B

"what's next, gay highways where gay people don't have to drive straight?"
Thanks muchly! And it's weird, the middle part of my zine, with the mirror thing, was actually the first and only thing I had in my mind at the time! What be your project for?

can anybody stop this thing?
The way women view themselves has always fascinated me, because even though I'm a weight that isn't deemed overweight, I always feel huge, and any minor line or blemish will seem as deep and if slashed into me.
I'm glad you like it! It was nice to do something a little deeper than big eyed cat folk for a while  (although, I do have a love for drawing them too)

Thank you so much, It's rare (if not... never) for me to do something like this, or do anything to do with collages, so I'm really happy you like it! :3!
